Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We welcome you to the webpage of Bethany Congregational Church.
We are pleased that you have chosen to view our website. Prayerfully you will find a diverse selection of material to bring about a clear picture of our Church and Church Family. We are a Christ centered church where Christ is at the center of our worship and is our Savior. We welcome all people and faith groups who come through our doors. Our Church Family is a warm and caring group of Christian people who show great compassion towards all who visit and many become members of Bethany Church. Bethany Church is located in the Historic City of Quincy, ( Home of John and John Quincy Adams). The Church is a landmark in Quincy Center and we are easily identified by its Gothic exterior and four imposing Gargoyles at each corner of the 120 foot tower. I know, that you will enjoy and find it worth the time and energy as you view the pages of our website. You will have the opportunity to visit many of the sights of our church and visit with many church members on these pages. Our membership continues to grow in faith and commitment to Christ and we look for ways to help bring about the Kingdom of God within our Community, Country and the World.
Our Sunday morning worship celebrates our faith through Prayer, Scripture, Music and Sacraments. We seek to encounter the Living God in Jesus Christ and the presence of the Holy Spirit. Since 1832, Bethany Church has been home to families and individuals from the Historic City of Quincy and surrounding communities who seek a caring and loving fellowship. We ask you to share in God’s love with us as we grow in faith and serve God striving to walk with God in all His ways and we invite you to walk with us. Let us, no matter what walk of life we come from share in the strength of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Letter from Reverend Smothers
Hi. I’m Gary Smothers, part-time Associate Pastor. Besides participating in services and assisting Pastor Bill, my job is to make calls on the sick, the elderly, the shut-in, and others in need of pastoral care. We make those calls because we care about people and what is happening to them. So if you need or would like us to call on you, please notify the Church Office at 617-479-7300, and we’ll contact you as soon as we can and make arrangements to visit you. Meanwhile, may the Lord bless and keep you.
TC's Gospel Road
One of our members at Bethany Church is in the process of pursuing ministerial standing in the UCC. Tom Coronite (TC, as we have come to know him) was ordained in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston in 1987. Having left the active ministry some time ago, he now has a family and works as an air traffic controller at Logan Airport in Boston. He plans to retire from controlling in a few years (2011) and then hopes to be ready to pursue a call in the UCC. While he participates in the life of our church, he provides a glimpse into the process of returning to active ministry through his website: www.gospelroad.blogspot.com.
